In ODN network construction, engineering laying and equipment costs are huge. For example, when installing optical cables, experienced workers need to use fusion splicers to splice optical fibers. Secondly, installation is difficult, and installation and maintenance operations affect network quality. When installing a traditional ODN network, every time you add or replace a user optical cable, you need to open the optical fiber distribution box, splice the fiber on site or make a cold connector, then fix the incoming optical cable inside the box and re-seal the box.
Key Challenges In ODN Connection
The most difficult in traditional ODN network construction is the connection between each ODN node equipment facility and optical cable equires complex optical cable stripping, fixing, and fusion operations, which is time-consuming and labor intensive. In order to reduce on-site fiber splicing, a Quick ODN solution came into being, which improves the speed of on-site installation, and is also called the Quick ODN solution (Quick ODN).
The main technologies of the quick ODN solution as follows:
Key technology 1: Pre-connection Technology
In ODN network construction, optical fiber splicing has always been a highly technical task that requires well-trained fiber splicing technicians. This makes optical cable deployment and construction costly and slow, and splicing often becomes a bottleneck in construction progress. Pre-connection refers to prefabricating optical cable connectors that meet the requirements of the use environment in the factory to form a prefabricated optical cable assembly. The prefabricated connectors are directly inserted into the adapter of the node equipment and facilities at the construction site to realize the optical fiber docking function. Combined with the use of outdoor enhanced connectors, pre-connection technology allows fiber optic connections to be made directly outside the node device without the need to repeatedly open the box.

Key technology 2: Unequal Ratio Optical Networking
As we all know, the optical splitter is the core passive optical device of the ODN network. The optical signal output by the OLT optical port is transmitted to a designated location through a single optical fiber and then branched to multiple optical fibers through the optical splitter, thereby realizing a PON port. The architecture of accessing multiple users can significantly reduce network construction costs by reusing OLT equipment and optical cables in feeder sections and distribution sections. The total splitting ratio of traditional PON networks is generally 1:64 and 1:32, and the 2-level splitting mode is often used.
The networking solution based on uneven PLC splitters can effectively solve the problems existing in traditional ODN deployment. This solution changes the traditional networking logic of equal ratio optical splitters. In typical networking scenarios, it adds a 1:2 uneven PLC splitters in front of the 1:8 optical splitter. The optical splitter is based on the input optical power is divided into two parts, such as 70% and 30%, 30% of the power is distributed to a 1:8 optical splitter, and 70% of the power is transmitted to the next-level optical fiber distribution box.

Key technology 3: Fully Sealed Box Technology
During the construction of traditional ODN networks, it is necessary to open the node equipment box at each splicing or splitting point, and complete operations such as fixing optical cables, splicing optical fibers, and installing optical splitters on-site. During the operation and maintenance process, each time a new user is connected, the fiber optic cable distribution box needs to be reopened, and operations such as fixing the incoming cable, splicing, and coiling the optical fiber need to be performed again. The construction process requires high operator skills and long operation time, and the construction quality fluctuates greatly with the operator's skill proficiency.
In view of the quality problems caused by traditional ODN unboxing, the fully sealed box technology in the pre-connection solution effectively alleviates this problem. The fully sealed fast connect fiber access closure is completely sealed after the internal optical components are assembled on the factory production line, leaving only the optical fiber docking interface exposed. Onsite plug and play, with vacant interfaces are protected by dust caps. When adding new users during subsequent operation and maintenance, only new entrance cables need to be plugged in.
